Now that is very high praise indeed, coming from someone as clearly accomplished as you, Andrew...and with great wisdom!

(btw, I am writing on France for the new American Purpose magazine of Francis Fukuyama...so stand by! ... I agree I feel quite safe here in the 7ème!!

I also agree that the Netherlands is a huge stewpot and with European Parliament elections coming next year across he continent (which we will of course be following closely!) potentially another major bellwether!

But thanks for the review....I treasure immensely intelligent and thoughtful readers such as yourself!

You are not AT ALL ‘hard to bear’ ! That you show up, make the effort, EXPRESS yourself puts you light years of your peers…never give up, never denigrate yourself !

I say Bravo!!!

Super read this week. Being a European, my reaction to TWTW reporting from Paris for a month was jealousy not apprehension. Even with disturbances, France is a pretty safe place compared to US, though I accept some of the banlieus not so great. Delightful piece on the death of the last surviving Kieffer commando. The overhead shots of the Kieffer commandos racing into Ouistreham is one of the highlights of Zanuck's Longest Day film.

One quick on The Netherlands: both Rutte's right wing Liberals VVD and the left liberal D66 are in the same international grouping Liberal International, and the same centrist group in the European Parliament. Yet their dispute on immigration has led to the fall of the government. Of course in America, D66, Green Left, CDA and most of VVD would be in the broad Democratic party - not that you can easily transpose the politics of one country to another.

Hello,

I read and get to know the world through the eyes of a specialist... I thought I knew something, good intentions huh, even after 4 years of study it will be too late for me, that's why every year I do journalism, and actually to be a good reporter, I would rather finish macro. micro emokomie, political science, international marketing, slowly building a circle of informants and acquaintances, collecting information not at all from the Internet on interesting topics, then you have to describe them ... I enjoy reading, but the level is so high that the pleasure of reading and getting to know the naked point of view, perception, it will end)) I cordially greet

p.s.I know that I always intrude uninvited, like yesterday, off topic, but I remembered something ... I wrote it, not much thinking ... well, I'm hard to bear ... ))

Comprehensive summary of world events from your perspective in France without the dreaded mention of a former president in my USA sucking all the oxygen out of reports of news here in the USA 🇺🇸. Refreshing I must say. Although it seems the oppressive heat is equaled only by dissension in many areas. I, too, had been concerned for your welfare; so pleased you are out of harm’s way. Looking forward to your next installment.
