Elections 2024: South Africa, Mexico, India .... the world views Trump as felon ... peace in Israel? ... bombs away in Ukraine ... an Olympic map ... and cartoonist urb looks at Taiwan, confronted
One can only hope (Israel) .... apparently ridding the world and especially the Middle East of the scourge of Netanyahu...sadly seems unlikely as he recognizes all that lies ahead of him after leaving office is a court room .... and he's certainly watched his homologue Trump's travails !
Thanks for the apropos comments and run-through, David. World affairs, what a week.
As for Netanyahu, yes, he clings to power to stay out of jail. However, is there any real opposition to his war cabinet & the abomination of the Gaza campaign? or is there internal party strife re: his attacks on Israeli judicial precedent? Israel is always a hodge-podge but isn't rightwing religious nationalism ascendant?
The decision in the NY court this week is absolutely historic; some would say a triumph of peer-jury justice. Of course, the ultra-right is ready to torch the country on Donald's account. What's in store?
Some day, let me tell you the story about being caught at 10 pm dining with a celebrity author aged 80, in the chic bistrot that had links to the Dôme. Call us a taxi, I asked the bistrotier. "There aren't any!" said the man, "there's a Gay Pride march tonight and the entre district is off-limits to cars."
The story ends with a painful crawl out of the district to catch a local bus back.
Although not an official indicator, I can always tell whether there is a consequential election by the number of inquires that I receive for Backup Plans. This year so far Taiwan, the US, and the UK were the largest numbers. However, South Africa, Mexico and India are just behind. With potential non-confidence votes, I wonder if Isreal will soon join the race.
