David, can you add something on the Bangladeshi events? All I'm seeing is reports of student agitation regarding quotas, for government jobs (which the supreme court has already pared back to almost nothing). Is that all? Seems a bit flimsy for a general revolt, am I wrong?
On the other hand, where I hang out, a duly elected government lost power over charging tuition fees, amounting to less than $500/ year at community colleges. And no, that isn't in the 3rd world...
Maduro's internal guard seems to be holding...will an external sympathizer like Lula be able and willing to push? And who will tilt against Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh?
Totally … remember , tho, many are world class professional athletes rather than backpacking students … and they were promised world class French cuisine !!!
Taking a look at pics of food at the Olympic cafeteria, I'm skeptical of the complaints. As a student in France on a subsidy, I might have had cold mashed potatoes from the night before alongside low-grade pasta with cheap cooking oil as 'butter'. Now and then, tinned tuna from some suspect Asiatic source. The pic shows me quiche and whole grains and stir-fried real veggies. I loved the Brit complaint about 'undercooked red meat', soooo English. Allez la France, le coq va chanter!
Thank YOU, Coco, for recognizing all the work that goes into this!
DO spread the word if you are so inclined !!
;-))
This is so informative. Thank you.
You were right, Walter ! ... things have accelerated faster than I'd ever have believed possible there!!
Clearly the Sheikh has lost the support of the army !!

Let's see how long the internal guard can hold ... Maduro seeeemed to be open to some kind of negotiation....even a crack in the wall......
as for Sheikh Haina, forget 'bout it, I'm afraid !

I should certainly be looking at Bangladesh & will do so … a nasty situation…the 1970s repeating themselves !!

The Great Game reveals itself (slightly) via the pawns subject to the game. Thanks for that.
Another great recap of the world’s biggest events. The good and the bad.
