Paris is already more than half empty ... everyone has fled (even my barber this coming week) ... the pharmacist says business is soooo slow and he's right next to the Musee d'Orsay .. the grand boulevards are ghostlike esp since they are barrés by the gendarmerie ... can cross Blvd St-G at noon without waiting for a walk sign and without fear whatsoever !!
World-class football, not a minor ingredient. Won't be half as mad though as the 98 Mondiale, I was in the Quatorzième. Armies of foreign supporters, chaos, madness of the Finale.
Extremely good coverage! Details I can only read here.
Was glad to read the Monde front page, loved the keen-eyed irony about Holy Blissful Crusader Trump. The wounded martyr channeling Mother Teresa. Better than anything I'd have seen in years. Libé (does anyone still read it?) only gets to that tone in a signed opinion piece, and its lead article (Jul 19) fashionably disses both candidates equally as 'old white men'. I'm surprised it doesn't say Dead White European Men.
One consolation, won't Paris half-empty on Congé d'été starting in a week? Perhaps they can get the RER back up & working by that time. All the best (in bad times).
Your comprehensive columns always remind me that for all the dangerous chaos and despicable characters in our own body politic, we are not the only ones.
That Rwanda vote tally got me. I guess its possible, they are 85% Hutu, but you'd at least think the cattle herders would be more than <1% against the farmers! The West would decry Magufuli in Tanzania for getting much less at 84% yet it was legit.
Awesome job covering important world events. Hopefully the Paris Olympics will be a needed break from all the nonsense that we have been seeing on a daily basis. I especially enjoyed the Trump Cartoon!
So VERY kind and generous !
An opinion to be deeply valued !!
As usual so perceptive and attentive!

You are so RIGHT ... and your thoughts so deeply appreciated, as are your own inimitable takes on the universe where we all live!
so very much appreciate a loyal & attentive reader !!
A great breakdown of global opinion. Ditto on Le Monde.
