Unleashed Conversation #1
The first of our weekly zoom chats to preview The World This Week and allow an exciting exchange for our most loyal and interesting subscribers. This week from Paris
Years ago, when I was supervising Forbes Arabia, its distinguished editor told me the story of his Bedouin forebearers. At times of crisis or transition, the elders of the tribe would come together around a campfire in the desert to discuss important issues, resolve differences, and test the waters (where that could be found). He was hoping to recreate such a desert campfire online.
This is how I now envision Unleashed Conversation—a campfire of exciting and interesting voices ready to explore the important issues of the moment around the globe.
Accordingly, Unleashed will offer a preview of our regular weekend offering, The World This Week, open up to discussion from all, and at times bring a distinguished guest to talk about one or another of these issues.
This week, for our debut campfire, here’s some of what’s on tap:
· The all but miraculous release of Evan Gershkovich and ten of his fellow inmates and especially what this might mean for the future…of those left behind and the war in Ukraine that is the drumbeat undercurrent.
· How does all this impact America’s presidential race, but of equal importance the future of Olaf Scholz’s coalition government in Germany.
· Israel’s assassinations….the incredible execution….and especially what this portends for the hostages, apparently left behind and all but forgotten
· From Paris, the Olympics head into their second week. The chaos, the excitement, the climate …. and what this means for the future.
· Instability in Venezuela, which sits on the world’s largest untapped reserves of oil.
· And Macron’s very very expensive dinners beyond the confines of the Elysée.
All this kicks off at:
· 6 PM in Paris, western Europe, parts of eastern Africa
· Noon in New York and Washington, portions of South America
· 9 AM in California and the West Coast, central and western South America
· 9:30 PM in India
· Midnight in Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore
· 2 AM (apologies) in eastern Australia
DO consider a subscription. We’ll have fun.
And what a campfire!
